We are pleased to announce that former mainline DMU Driver / Instructor Tony S. has decided to join the Group. Tony is able to offer some of his spare time to support the SVR’s DMU operation. His expertise and knowledge will be of great benefit.

The new blog is on a roll!
Hot on the heels of Trevor’s initial blog we now also have a superb tale of events by Phil, our Vice-Chair on our GroupEx Blog. Phil’s account relates to working as a guard on a steam hauled passenger train on another very big railway all the way down to Plymouth. Photographs also provided by Phil.

With the acknowledged success of the DMU Groups’s ’Blue Square Blog’, we have decided to create something similar for recording Group visits to other railways.
The name of this additional blog is the ‘GroupEx Blog’ (GroupEx = Group Excursion) or the GEB for short.
Where and how the web manager comes up with these blog names is not known - some have suggested he gets direct advice and mentoring from the Stig of Top Gear fame?.
Trevor takes the credit for being the first to supply content about his trip to Quainton Road with Phil Allison.
If anyone visits another railway then send the details to the Web Manager for adding to this blog

Following our request for additional help in staffing the Travelling Tavern June W. is very pleased to announce that the Group has a new bar man, namely, James M. He started with us on the 31st July and has now done his second turn behind the bar.
James is a new volunteer on the railway, and is also hoping to go on the railway’s signalling course. James came to us directly via our web site appeal, and likes it so much, he's intends to stay.

Jon T. has completed his traction conversion course under Ian and now awaits the drivers exam with an inspector.
Jon was one of the Groups’ members from the earlier days, but work took him away to London. He has recently been able to spend more time back on the Valley and has passed out as a Class 08 shunter driver in addition to being a fireman on steam locos. He has also recently been accepted on a drivers course at First Great Western, after many years as a guard, on both Central & First Great Western. We wish him well.

Two thank you messages have reached the web manager.
Our Vice-Chair, Phil A. sends his thanks to the whole Group, in whatever role they have played, for all their help so far this year. Everyone’s hard work has ensured that our passengers have come away happy and that the income we have earned will help to keep the railcars in operational condition.
In addition, Dave Bratton would like to especially thank all the bar and food operations team for actively supporting the Travelling Tavern during this year’s ‘Land Cruise’ season. It could not have been achieved without all your hard work, many thanks everyone! Mathew B. has kindly supplied a photo of some of the team.
