Blue Square Blog

Blog is a recent word used around the world, being a recognised contraction of the term ‘web log’

Blue square is a coupling code. This was a designation originally created by British Railways in the 1950's to identify types of railcars that could be coupled together and driven under the control of one driver. Other codes being a red triangle or a white circle. The theme being a distinct shape with its own unique colour for shunters and drivers to easily recognise.
This symbol, a blue square in the case of class 108 DMU's, was painted at the ends of each unit to avoid any confusion and to discourage other types of railcars from being attached.
Put the two parts together and you have Blue Square Blog.

The theme and logo of our ‘Blue Square Blog’ is to link historic DMU terminology with a modern communication technique to tell the world how the Group is progressing with railcar maintenance.
