With the acknowledged success of the DMU Groups’s ’Blue Square Blog’, we have decided to create something similar for our hard working on-board bar staff
The name of this additional blog is the ‘Taverner’s Blog’ (aligns with the name of the main bar, the ‘Travelling Tavern’).
Many thanks to June for agreeing to supply the content.

We urgently need more help to run all the passenger facing facilities on-board our
Evening Scenic Land Cruise trains. Extra people are required to assist with the running
of the main bar, the sandwich bar, manage the hot food process and lots of other
tasks.
Never done this sort of thing before? Don’t worry it’s great fun, it’s very rewarding
and there is a good team spirit. Just send us an email telling us a little about
yourself, where you live and how much time you are able to offer the DMU Group. For
insurance purposes applicants must be a member of the Severn Valley Railway. If you
are not an SVR member please still contact us if you feel you can help us.
To contact our bar manager if you wish to get involved.

Taverner’s Blog - Saturday 29th May 2010
A good night was had by all. Following our appeal for extra help we had a new trainee barman, James Cooper, join us this week and he did an absolutely cracking job. James says that he really enjoyed himself so much so that he is also coming back next week to do it all over again!
Lawrence Mortimer managed the food orders very well for us this week. Mark Blything and James Cooper had to help him distribute the food at Bridgnorth as no one else was available.
TO NOTE THAT OUR APPEAL FOR ADDITIONAL HELP CONTINUES (please refer to the top of this web page).
We currently have a special drinks offer available from the Travelling Tavern. OLD ROSSIE SCRUMPY is being sold at a bargain price of £1.30 for a 1/2 pint. This has been going down really well with our passengers. The offer will continue whilst supplies last. Batham’s and Magner’s cider are also proving popular.
Brain Wilson kindly changed the gas for us in the week, so the Lager and the Tettly beer was pouring better than ever.
Unusually, we did not have a Ticket Inspector on board this week, which meant that the Severn Valley Railway probably lost some much needed revenue. Without a ticket check it was possible that a number of passengers may well have travelled for free. I know the DMU group do not get anything from ticket sales but can the SVR really afford the lose out on these fares?

Special DMU charter.
Could I say a very big thank you to both Jose and Brian White (from Bewdley Buffet) for manning the bar on Friday night when the DMU formed a special charter for the ‘Friends of Bridgnorth Hospital’. I can not thank them enough for all their effort.
Taverner’s Blog - Saturday 15th May 2010
After last week’s inaugural and busy run of the Evening Scenic Land Cruise there were less passengers travelling on this weekend’s run. The benefit of this situation allowed us to offer a really good level of service to our customers and no complaints.
My thanks go to Graham Murray, who kindly stepped in to cover all the food orders, phone the orders through and dish them all out. This took 50% of my work load off me. It was fantastic to get this help.
As there was only myself behind the bar, having someone else do the food was brilliant.
Sorry there's not much to say this week, other than I am still pleading for help behind the bar.

Taverner’s Blog - Saturday 7th May 2010
Our first Evening Scenic Land Cruise of the 2010 season got off to a good start. Patronage at the main bar was very good, although the sandwich bar could not be opened due to lack of staff.
The young lads and Emma that helped with the taking of food orders worked well, and the chip shop delivered our order quite quickly. The use of plastic glasses did work well.
There was only Mark Blything and myself behind the main bar. This was alright until we had to leave the bar to either phone through the food order or to help give the food order out. We really do need someone to manage the taking, phoning and the dishing out of the food orders, so that we can stay behind the bar.
Having the coolant system turned on for some time before we depart, has worked really well. Better than either Brian or myself would have thought. The beer stayed cold all night.
The raffle took place and was well supported by the passengers, although without the PA system some did complain that they did not know who had won. We must try harder next time to let all passengers know.
Cleaning up the bar afterwards, and with only two people, was exhausting. We cannot emphasise more strongly that we really do require more staff for all sections on the night.
